Der Autor war als Kinderarzt 25 Jahre in der Klinik Berlin-Neukölln überwiegend mit der Betreuung von Neugeborenen beschäftigt. In diesem Artikel stellt er die Notwendigkeit medizinischer Eingriffe an zweigeschlechtlichen Menschen infrage und handelt die Herkunft des medizinischen Standards im Umgang mit Intersexualität ab. Dabei geht er insbesondere auf die psychischen und physischen Langzeitfolgen ein, die durch medizinische Behandlungen im Kindesalter und bei Neugeborenen oftmals entstehen.

( abstract ) Intersex children are born with variations of sex anatomy, including atypical genetic make- up, atypical sex hormone producing organs, atypical response to sex hormones, atypical genitals, atypical secondary sex markers. While intersex children may face several problems, in the “developed world” the most pressing are the ongoing Intersex Genital Mutilations, which present a distinct and unique issue constituting significant human rights violations. IGMs include non-consensual, medically unnecessary, irreversible, cosmetic genital surgeries, and/or other harmful medical treatments that would not be considered for “normal” children, without evidence of benefit for the children concerned, but justified by societal and cultural norms and beliefs. Typical forms of IGMs include “masculinising” and “feminising” genital “correction,” castration, sterilisation, imposition of hormones, forced genital exams, vaginal dilations and medical display, human experimentation and selective abortion.

( abstract ) This is a joint submission by COC Netherlands, Transgender Network Netherlands, and Netherlands Network Intersex/DSD and constitutes the first national civil society report on the rights of LGBTI children in the Netherlands. This CRC shadow report is a summarized and translated version of the report “LGBTI children in the Netherlands, Report on the situation and rights of a forgotten group” (2013), presented to the State Secretary of Health, Wellbeing and Sports in February 2014, and was written by COC Netherlands and financed by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sciences.

Corrections médicales des personnes intersexuées : le bras armé de l’hétérosexisme (2013, Janik Bastien Charlebois, 3 p., pdf)( abstract ) C’est parce qu’elle est convaincue d’office que les sexes sont distincts que la médecine tranche dans nos corps, munie de bistouris et prescrivant l’hormonothérapie. C’est parce qu’elle est persuadée de l’existence d’un ordre naturel, qui culmine par l’union et la reproduction hétérosexuelles, qu’elle nous qualifie de désordres, de maladies et de syndromes. Les médecins n’ont pas de regard neutre et désincarné, ils sont porteurs d’une vision du monde imprégnée de sexisme et d’hétérosexisme. Il suffit pour s’en convaincre d’examiner les raisonnements sur lesquels les endocrinologues et les urologues pédiatres s’appuient pour estimer la correction de nos corps nécessaire, pour décider s’ils nous assignent en garçon ou en fille et des transformations que cela requiert, de même que pour se justifier auprès des médias. Qu’on ne s’y méprenne pas, nous ne présumons pas qu’ils veulent délibérément nous causer du tort ou qu’ils sont tous conscients de la portée sexiste et hétérosexiste de leurs actes. Cependant, cela ne signifie pas non plus qu’ils sont dépourvus de jugements négatifs à notre endroit, ni qu’ils sont disposés à reconnaître pleinement notre humanité.

( abstract ) Medical procedures have often been used as analogues for childhood sexual abuse (CSA) and have been seen as opportunities to observe children’s memories of these experiences in a naturalistic context. Medical traumas share many of the critical elements of childhood abuse, such as fear, pain, punishment, and loss of control, and often result in similar psychological sequelae. It has been difficult, however, to find a naturally occurring trauma which incorporates aspects thought to be critical to the phenomenon of forgotten/recovered memories: namely, secrecy, misinformation, betrayal by a caregiver, and dissociative processes. There has been the added difficulty of finding medical events that directly involve genital contact and which accurately reflect the family dynamic in which abuse occurs.
